Are there any special classes I should take before enrolling into the Cyber Security Engineering Program?

Nope! The undergraduate program is designed for students enrolling at all levels of cyber security knowledge

For the Grad program, applicants will be expected to have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or closely related disciplines and to have completed the engineering math sequence as well as courses in probability and statistics, and computer science. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 is required. Domestic students lacking a working background in engineering mathematics and computer systems may be admitted provisionally and required to take one or more foundation courses.

For engineering mathematics, the department may require SYST 500 Quantitative Foundations for Systems Engineering or an equivalent course with an intensive review of undergraduate engineering mathematics, including matrix algebra, calculus, differential equations, probability and statistics.

Students who have not completed a two-semester calculus sequence and matrix algebra will be required to complete these courses prior to taking SYST 500.

For the computer systems background, the department may require CS 531 Computer Systems and Fundamentals of Systems Programming or an equivalent course with systems level of programming with an emphasis on data structures and interfacing with operating systems.
I am an international student and would like to find out more information about the program and if my credits will transfer. What's needed for the program, and what steps to I need to take to attend George Mason?

I am the parent of a high schooler. What classes should my child take to get better prepared for the program?

Freshmen students who apply "Score Optional" to Computer Science and Engineering majors will be considered if they have:

completed four years of high school mathematics courses, with one course designated as a higher level than Algebra II completed by the senior year

completed all math courses with grades of B or better

Freshmen students who do not apply score optional using SAT or ACT scores must have completed four years of high school mathematics courses, with one course designated as a higher level than Algebra II completed by the senior year with C grade or better and a SAT or ACT score as listed below:

at least a 550 on the Math SAT

at least 26 on the Math ACT test
Does CYSE - Department of Cyber Security Engineering offer Certification classes?
Not within CYSE. We only offer a BS and an MS degree program.
What high school programs are accepted for our program?
There are no high school programs that are directly accepted into our program. GMU accepts credits from AP, IB, and DE.

Can I take a summer class at NOVA to finish my degree faster?
No, since you are a George Mason student, all courses should be completed at George Mason. This ensures you are receiving all of the necessary information that is included within your degree program and requirements.

Do I have to take math classes in the program? Can I substitute something else for it?

MATH is a key component of the degree program and cannot be substituted.

All incoming students are required to complete the math placement test in order to be able to register for math, unless they have AP, IB, or DE credit
